How We Frame Our Decks

FRAMING IS EVERYTHING TO A DECK'S STABILITY AND LONGEVITY

Don't be undersold!

  • Proper framing will ensure maximum longevity and structural integrity for the life of your deck.

  • Proper framing should follow the International Residential Code to ensure longevity and integrity.

  • DO NOT trust just anyone to build you a deck! Inexperience WILL lead to a shortened and unstable deck life and you will pay for it!

  • What do we do when we frame a deck?

    • All our beams are doubled. Beams are the "bones" of a solid deck. They ensure a deck will remain level and solid for many years.

    • All our beams are "saddled" onto a 4x6 treated pine pier. We don't nail our beams to a 4x4, we lag screw them onto a notched 4x6 for maximum support and stability

    • All our beam supporting piers are no more than 6 foot apart.

    • Our floor joists are never more than 7 foot 6 inches long.

    • Our floor joists are supported by joist hangers

    • Our floor joists are always 16 inches apart, never 24 inches as some do.

    • Our rail posts are always taken to the ground when possible, providing for additional strength.

    • If our rail posts are cedar, we treated them with liquified tar before setting in concrete.

    • All piers and posts are concreted into the ground. We never use deck blocks.

Review the images above and take notice of the pier and beam combination, the floor joists, treated cedar posts, and the joist hangers. You can almost feel the strength and integrity as you watch the slides.
